- Glaze Color: Rust. This is an old treatment that Handcraft Tile calls "buffed engobe". The color comes from a slip glaze (liquid clay with a colorant). After firing, some of the glaze is buffed off, exposing the clay color beneath. This treatment gives the tile a vintage look the day it is made. For durability, a glossy clear glaze has been applied to the tile.
